Media report Metropolitan Tychikos's achievements in Paphos ministry
In two years of episcopacy, the income of the Metropolis has more than doubled, new educational centers have been established, and more than 800 icons have been restored.
The Greek branch of the UOJ published a detailed article on the pastoral activities of Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos for the period from March 2023 to May 2025. The publication notes that over these two years, the Metropolis of Paphos has experienced a significant spiritual and economic growth.
Metropolitan Tychikos almost daily celebrated the Divine Liturgy and called for frequent services in parishes. During his service, neglected chapels and even ruins of churches were revived. A church in the center of Paphos was designated for daily services. The bishop paid special attention to catechetical work. An adult baptistery was reconstructed as the number of adult baptisms significantly increased.
The Metropolitan established the only functioning Bureau for Heresy Issues in Cyprus and created a new multifunctional youth center in Paphos with departments of Byzantine and European music, iconography, painting, foreign languages, and folk dances. Under his leadership, a new school of Byzantine music with five teachers and a specific training program was created. In its first year, the school had 65 students – an unprecedented result.
The bishop founded and launched a department for the registration, preservation, and supervision of monuments, icons, and relics. In two years, the department restored over 800 icons and conducted a digital inventory of holy sites. The Metropolitan paid special attention to the local saints of Paphos, reviving the memory of more than 10 saints, bishops, venerables, and martyrs whose memory had faded.
Metropolitan Tychikos also achieved significant success in the financial field. In the first year of Metropolitan Tychikos's episcopacy (2023), the income of the metropolis more than doubled (by 116%), reaching € 1,100,698. It is estimated that in 2024 the amount exceeded 2 million euros. At the same time, significant reductions in the operational expenses of the metropolis were made, indicating prudent and strict management. Metropolitan Tychikos also restructured and settled non-performing loans amounting to millions of euros inherited from previous administrations.
As earlier reported, in May 2025, the Synod of Cyprus removed Metropolitan Tychikos from the administration of the Paphos Diocese. The Metropolitan appealed to the Ecumenical Patriarch. On October 17, 2025, the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate considered the appeal and acknowledged that "during the examination of the file on the matter, omissions were discovered during the trial of the case of Metropolitan Tychicos in the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus," but upheld the decision.
