Georgian Patriarch Ilia called on the Church to strengthen Christian values in the face of technological challenges.

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II has warned of the spiritual dangers associated with the development of artificial intelligence technologies. He made this statement while addressing participants of a scientific conference in Thessaloniki, Greece, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the journal Theology, reports EADaily.

According to the Primate of the Georgian Church, the rapid advance of technology brings not only benefits but also grave moral risks.

“Alongside the good, artificial intelligence harbors a great danger capable of driving the world into an abyss and making it a victim of sins previously unseen. Society senses this and is already trying to create protective mechanisms,” the Patriarch said.

Patriarch Ilia emphasized that it is the Church that must become a spiritual compass for humankind in an age of information overload.

“The Church must strengthen Christian values through modern technologies, helping people to discern good from evil so that they do not stray from the spiritual path and do not become slaves to material values, pragmatism, and egoism,” he said.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that Patriarch Ilia II spoke about the main enemies of a person who has turned away from God.
