Legal support for the metropolitan will be led by Panagiotis Lazaratos, the Professor of Administrative Law at the Law School of the University of Athens.

The Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate will be convened to hear the case of Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos on Friday, October 17, at 11:30 AM, reports the Greek website of the UOJ citing the Cypriot agency KΥΠΕ.

Metropolitan Tychikos was invited to the Synod meeting at the initiative of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. The legal support for the metropolitan will be led by Panagiotis Lazaratos, the Professor of Administrative Law at the Law School of the University of Athens, who has experience in similar ecclesiastical legal cases before the Constantinople Throne.

The official statement by Professor Lazaratos's office emphasizes that he "undertakes the support of the appeal of the Metropolitan of the Church of Cyprus before the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople against the decision of the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus regarding his removal from the see."

In a comment for KΥΠΕ, the professor noted that "the details of the procedure will become known in the middle of next week," and also clarified that the invitation from the Ecumenical Patriarchate was sent to Metropolitan Tychikos "one or two days ago".

According to the lawyer, Metropolitan Tychikos will arrive in Istanbul on Tuesday or Wednesday, and the professor himself will arrive on Thursday evening. The procedural details, according to him, remain unknown for now, but it is known that both Metropolitan Tychikos and his representative will speak before the Synod.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Holy Synod of Cyprus removed Metropolitan Tychikos from the leadership of the Paphos Diocese. In turn, the metropolitan filed an appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Subsequently, the Synod of the Church of Constantinople invited Metropolitan Tychikos to the session.
