Patriarch Theodore II emphasizes that peace constitutes a central evangelical truth and an essential condition for the progress and future of humankind.

On October 8, 2025, Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa signed a Patriarchal and Synodal Letter to the local governments and peoples, condemning every form of violence, war, and violation of human dignity.

In the document, Patriarch Theodore II emphasizes that peace is a central Gospel truth and a necessary condition for the future of humanity. He called on political and spiritual leaders to end armed conflicts, reconcile peoples, and protect human rights.

Special attention in the appeal is given to the African continent, where, according to the Patriarch, civil wars, terrorist attacks, and persecution of Christians continue. He listed the tragic events in Nigeria, Congo, Sudan, Ethiopia, and Mozambique, stressing that these sufferings are exacerbated by the consequences of colonialism and economic exploitation.

The Holy Synod of the Alexandrian Patriarchate, which met from October 6 to 9 under the chairmanship of Theodore II, reaffirmed its commitment to the cause of peace, justice, and equality. The message notes that violence against a person is a form of godlessness, as every human being, according to the biblical teaching, was created “in the image and likeness” (Gen. 1:23) of the Creator.

In conclusion, the Patriarch appealed to all people of goodwill to act for peace and the cessation of violence: "This is the time for deeds, not words – for action, not vague and hypocritical well-wishes.... Peace is our only choice."

As reported, the US Army in Africa promised to support the Alexandrian Patriarchate.
