Preventive measure extended for Cherkasy Metropolitan
The Sosnivka Court has extended the preventive measure against Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy for two more months.
On September 8, 2025, the Sosnivka District Court of Cherkasy extended the preventive measure against Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy, obliging him to adhere to personal commitments. The motion for the extension was filed by the prosecutor, Suspilne reported.
During the hearing, prosecutor Vadym Kolomiiets requested the extension, arguing that the risks identified in earlier proceedings remained. “The defendant may influence witnesses and commit the actions of which he is suspected. These risks are justified. I ask to extend the preventive measure in the form of personal obligation,” the prosecutor said.
However, the defendant’s lawyer, Tamara Hrydenko, objected to the wording of the motion. “We want the prosecutor to listen to us and approach his duties more professionally. The ‘risks’ have been the same for two years. Therefore, we object to the text of the motion,” she stated.
Metropolitan Theodosiy likewise disagreed with the prosecutor’s claims, calling them “baseless.” He noted that the prosecutor identifies himself with his “anti-Church” motions.
After deliberation, the court ruled to extend the preventive measure in the form of personal obligation with the required conditions for another two months – until November 8.
It should be recalled that the trials of Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv have been ongoing for two years. During this period, he has been served with five suspicions, two of which were combined into a single case. The first suspicion was announced by the Security Service of Ukraine on February 20, 2023.
