The Dnipro Court of Appeal will review complaints against the decision to extend the detention of the abbot of the Sviatohirsk Lavra.
On September 4, 2025, the Dnipro Court of Appeal will hear the appeals of the lawyers of Metropolitan Arseniy of Sviatohirsk, abbot of the Sviatohirsk Lavra, against the ruling of the Sloviansk City District Court of August 1, which extended his detention until September 29 inclusive. This was reported by the website of the Sviatohirsk Lavra.
The appellate hearing will begin at 10:00 a.m. The defense will petition the judges to release the Lavra’s abbot, requesting an alternative preventive measure in the form of bail, personal surety, or another measure not connected with imprisonment.
Metropolitan Arseniy has been held in the Dnipro pre-trial detention center for about a year and a half – since April 25, 2024.
The brotherhood of the Sviatohirsk Lavra appealed to the faithful with a request for prayers for the imprisoned Metropolitan Arseniy and the Lavra’s brotherhood. On the official website of the Lavra, bank details were also published for donations toward the hierarch’s legal defense.
Various stages of the trial of Metropolitan Arseniy have been previously reported, and materials from the criminal case are being published on the Sviatohirsk Lavra website.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that on August 1 the court extended the detention of Metropolitan Arseniy for another two months.
