The Pontiff, during the Sunday prayer, called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and serious efforts toward dialogue with the support of the international community.

On August 31, 2025, during the Sunday Angelus prayer, Pope Leo XIV once again called for an immediate ceasefire and serious efforts on behalf of dialogue.

He urged everyone not to succumb to indifference but to unite in prayer and concrete acts of mercy, reiterating his appeal for a ceasefire.

“I firmly repeat my urgent call for an immediate ceasefire and serious engagement in dialogue. It is time for those in power to abandon the logic of weapons and to take up the path of negotiation and peace, with the support of the international community. The voice of weapons must fall silent, and the voice of fraternity and justice must prevail,,” he said.

Recall that before the meeting between Trump and Putin, Pope Leo stated that it was necessary to put an end to violence and death.
