Khmelnytskyi region resident convicted for refusing mobilization over religion
According to the convict, his beliefs prohibit holding arms.
A resident of the Derazhnia community in the Khmelnytskyi region will spend three years behind bars for evading military service during mobilization due to religious beliefs. This was reported by the Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor's Office.
Under the public accusation of the Letychiv District Prosecutor's Office, the court found the 37-year-old resident of the Derazhnia community guilty of evading military service during mobilization in a special period (Article 336 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to three years of imprisonment.
The Prosecutor’s Office states that in October 2024, following the results of a military medical commission, the man was declared fit for military service. In December, he was served a combat summons to report to the local Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center for dispatch to a military unit to perform military service.
However, it is noted that he categorically refused to accept the combat summons, citing religious convictions. According to the man, his beliefs forbid him from taking up arms.
He did not appear at the specified time and date mentioned in the summons.
The court's verdict has not come into legal force and can be appealed in an appellate procedure.
