Prayer vigils near the Orthodox shrine began in the spring of 2023.

On June 16, 2025, the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church gathered once again in prayer near the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. As the Telegram channel Fortress Lavra reminds, these prayer vigils have been ongoing for more than two years.

Clergy, parishioners, and pilgrims have been coming to pray at the holy site almost daily since the spring of 2023.

“May the Lord save all those whose prayers keep the Kyiv-Pechersk Cradle of Monasticism alive day after day. Behind the wall, the monks living under a double blockade carry on their daily labor of prayer. And we, ordinary Orthodox believers, have our own task – even if it is simpler and less significant,” commented journalists who have also been coming to pray at the monastery throughout this time.

The vigils are held near the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh. The faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church invite Kyiv residents and guests of the capital to join in prayer for the Orthodox shrine. The vigils begin at 4:00 p.m.

As previously reported by the UOJ, a UOC priest preaching near the Lavra said: “We also ask for the intercessions of the Venerable Fathers of the Pechersk Lavra that through their prayers our sorrow may be resolved, and that we may again enter our holy monastery and offer there our thanksgiving prayers to the Lord God for peace in our land, for its prosperity, and for every good deed that the Lord sends us in our lives.”
