The Mukachevo Eparchy of the UOC has called for intensified prayer for the repose of the newly departed Archpriest Heorhii.

On June 12, 2025, the funeral service for the senior cleric and spiritual father of the Mukachevo Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Archpriest Heorhii Chulei, was held at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in the village of Bilky, Zakarpattia. The eparchial press service reported the event.

The funeral service was led by Metropolitan Feodor of Mukachevo and Uzhhorod, concelebrated by Bishop Illarii of Svaliava and about one hundred clergy.

“For more than sixty years, Father Heorhii stood faithfully before the Holy Altar, serving as a devoted pastor of Christ’s Church. His life represents an entire era in the history of the Mukachevo Eparchy – an era of sacrificial service, deep faith, unwavering commitment to the Gospel truth, and love for his flock. He not only lived the Gospel himself but humbly guided others on the true path to Christ,” said Metropolitan Feodor.

After the funeral rite, the body of the newly departed Father Heorhii was carried in prayer around his beloved parish church, where he had served for many years.

The Mukachevo Eparchy called on the clergy, monastics, and all faithful children of the Church to offer intensified prayers for the repose of Archpriest Heorhii’s soul.

Archpriest Heorhii Chulei reposed in the Lord on June 10, 2025, at the age of 90.

As previously reported, a monastic tonsure was performed at the Dormition Convent in Zakarpattia.
