After Tychikos, Cypriot Synod intent to review Metropolitan Neophytos case

The Archbishop of Cyprus declared he had discovered “heresy within the Church.”
The Primate of the Church of Cyprus, Archbishop Georgios, stated in an interview with RIKnews that following the deposition of Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos, the Synod will review the activities of Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou at its next session on June 23, 2025.
In his comments to the outlet, the Archbishop announced the discovery of “heresy within the Church, which, fortunately, was exposed due to recent events and the defection of clergy.”
Speaking about Metropolitan Tychikos, Archbishop Georgios stressed that he expects a “confession of faith” from him – something that may be interpreted as a renunciation of the views for which he was deposed from the Paphos see.
The head of the Cypriot Church emphasized that if Metropolitan Tychikos does not offer such a “confession,” then “the matter will be definitively closed on June 23,” the date of the next Holy Synod meeting.
As a reminder, Metropolitan Neophytos has publicly stated that His Beatitude Onuphry is the canonical primate in Ukraine, while Epifaniy is not.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that a theologian described the case of Metropolitan Tychikos as an example of an “upside-down world.”
