UGCC displays censer made from hand grenade

A UGCC censer made from a hand grenade was displayed, with online commenters calling it “explosive and bombastic.”
Hieromonk Luka Mykhailovych of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) posted photos on Facebook of a censer fashioned from a live grenade. According to him, it was sent from the front lines and is the work of “trench craftsmen.” Mykhailovych praised the grenade censer, saying it was “free of invented aesthetics, gilding, and excessive decoration.”
He did not comment on whether liturgical items should be made from instruments of war.
The photos of the “grenade censer” were received with humor and approval in the comments. “Its appearance gives new meaning to the phrase ‘I’m about to swing the censer!’” wrote Borys Naumchuk. “A bombastic thurible,” joked Vasyl Rudeyko. Oleksandr Selezynka added, “I’d say more – explosive.”
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the OCU had ordered inscriptions such as “God’s mercy” and “grace” to be printed on live grenades.
