The walls and interior decoration of the church are damaged, windows are shattered, the roof and domes are significantly destroyed, and the baptistery is completely demolished.

On June 2, 2025, as a result of an airstrike by the RF on the village of Khotin in the Sumy district, the Dormition Church of the UOC was damaged, reports the website Orthodox Sumy.

It is noted that three guided aerial bombs (KAB) hit the center of the village. According to preliminary data, there are no casualties among the local population, but the village's infrastructure suffered serious damage.

The Dormition Church, built about twenty years ago and revered by local residents as the spiritual center of the community, suffered the most.

Photos from the scene show that the blast wave damaged the church’s walls, shattered windows, and caused significant destruction to the roof and dome. The interior of the church was also damaged, including icons, the altar, and liturgical items.

An adjacent building used for baptisms was completely destroyed.

“The Sumy Diocese is praying for peace, for God’s protection of all residents of the Khotin community, and for the restoration of the destroyed church,” the statement says.

As previously reported by the UOJ, two churches of the Sumy Eparchy of the UOC were damaged as a result of Russian shelling.
