The nunnery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) has been transferred by the authorities to a local national reserve.

On May 1, 2025, the Commercial Court of Chernihiv Region will hold a hearing on the eviction of nuns from the Dormition Yelets Convent. This was reported by the Pershyi Kozatskyi Telegram channel.

According to journalists, the court will consider the issue of evicting the monastery community from the territory of the shrine, which had been taken from the UOC and handed over to the Ancient Chernihiv National Reserve.

As previously reported by the UOJ, the Director of the Reserve, N. Rebrova, stated that her staff, who come to the monastery to perform certain works, have conflicts with the elderly nuns of the Yelets Convent of the UOC. According to her, the nuns "are captive to propaganda, captive to the idea that they are going to stay there forever."

Earlier, the Supreme Court denied the UOC the right to use the Yelets Convent in Chernihiv.
