The head of the OCU believes that the new US authorities will not interfere with the religious situation in Ukraine over the persecution of the UOC.

The head of the OCU, Epiphany Dumenko, stated in an interview with “Apostrophe” that he did not fear possible actions by the Trump administration because of the persecution of the UOC. He assured that “in Ukraine there is such freedom of religion, which is not, probably, in some European countries.”

According to Dumenko, since this is what the UCCRO says, it means that this is what it really is, and any other statements are propaganda from Moscow.

“This Moscow claims, and the Moscow Patriarchate, the Russian Church, say everywhere abroad that there is persecution in Ukraine, but in fact there is no such thing,” said Serhiy Dumenko. Whether he meant by “Moscow Patriarchate” the UOC, the religious figure did not specify.

In his opinion, “we will continue to have support from our international partners.”

Earlier, Dumenko complained that the priests of the UOC refuse to move to his structure. They say that they would rather leave the priesthood than move to the OCU.
