The church windows are shattered, the domes pierced, the roof damaged, and the walls and doors have sustained significant damage.
On March 24, 2025, as a result of yet another missile attack by the Russian Federation on Sumy, 90 people were injured, including 17 children. A school, residential buildings, and the temple of the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Slobozhanshchyna were damaged. This was reported by the press service of the Sumy Eparchy.
As the rector of the temple, Archpriest Sergey Shulga, explained, windows were shattered, domes and roofs were pierced, and the walls and doors suffered significant damage due to the blast wave and debris from the missile. Due to the strong shockwave, cracks appeared in the walls of the temple.
«It is especially painful that the temple was only recently built and consecrated, becoming a spiritual center for the local community,» the message states.
In the basement of the temple, there is a shelter that local residents use during alarms. Fortunately, the diocesan press service notes that no one was injured in the shelter during the strike.
The Sumy Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church expressed condolences to all the victims and called for intensified prayers for the health of the injured and peace in Ukraine.
As reported by the UOJ, the Sumy Eparchy of the UOC shared how they evacuate residents from dangerous zones.
