In Kharkiv, MP claims to have found a “fake community of some gravedigger”
Halyna Kuts shared with the media the “discoveries” from her investigation into UOC religious communities in the Kharkiv region.
Halyna Kuts, a member of the Kharkiv Regional Council, expressed concern during an interview with Espreso that there are still 364 registered religious communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in the Kharkiv region. According to her, some of these are fake.
Kuts claimed that this number of parishes does not reflect the actual faith of Kharkiv residents, but rather points to questionable registration practices.
“They become a kind of trump card for Putin, showcasing the ‘Russian world’ to the West,” she concluded.
While reviewing the addresses of these communities, Kuts said she unexpectedly came across a religious community “of some Pechersk gravedigger” (apparently referring to Venerable Mark the Gravedigger of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra – Ed.). This raised her suspicions and led her to assume that the community was fake, as were many others with “unclear” or “duplicate” names.
The MP called on the Kharkiv Regional Council to take action: “We need to eliminate these cells that were implanted everywhere but remain barely noticeable.” She stressed that “this process is important, because even within the deputy corps there must be a desire for cleansing.”
As previously reported by the UOJ, in Kharkiv, a UOC hierarch and priests recently donated blood for local residents and the military.
