RCC bishop in Ukraine concerned about talks with Russia "at our expense"
Jan Sobilo stated that he feels encouraged when he sees tanks heading to the front.
Auxiliary Bishop of the Kharkiv-Zaporizhzhia Eparchy of the Roman Catholic Church, Jan Sobilo, said in an interview with Credo that he prays for "politicians, led by Trump and European leaders, to take our situation seriously and understand that one cannot negotiate with the aggressor on equal terms."
According to him, Russia must be stopped solely by force. "And we are very concerned about this desire to negotiate with the aggressor at our expense," the Catholic bishop said.
At the same time, some things bring him reassurance.
"For example, yesterday I was traveling from Zaporizhzhia to Lviv, and I saw convoys [of weapons]. Support is coming. And suddenly, my heart felt lighter. Immediately, it seemed that the situation is not as tragic, that there is hope, that the world will not abandon us," the bishop stated.
According to him, arms supplies are "also a sign that God never abandons us and that He inspires the hearts of people – including those in power – to be ready to help."
"I never thought I would rejoice at the sight of tanks. But when you live in a country at war, these tanks are a hope for salvation," Sobilo said. He is convinced that "people in high offices are beginning to understand and are making wise decisions."
Earlier, the UOJ reported that, according to the head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, "we are being coerced into some kind of imaginary truce, which in no way appears as a just peace for Ukraine." In his view, negotiations should be abandoned because "the Lord God has a plan for Ukraine's salvation."
