Human rights advocates: France tops anti-Christian countries list in EU
The United Kingdom and Germany ranked second and third, respectively.
The Vienna Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination Against Christians in Europe has named France one of the most anti-Christian countries in the European Union. According to CREDO, out of 2,444 cases of persecution of Christians recorded in 35 European countries, nearly 1,000 incidents occurred in France.
"In 2023, 2,444 incidents were recorded, 232 of which directly affected individuals through harassment, threats, and violence. The largest number of anti-Christian acts – nearly 1,000 – occurred in France. These included church desecrations, arson, and vandalism, often accompanied by anti-Christian slogans," the report states.
The United Kingdom ranked second, with more than 700 incidents, while Germany saw a 105% increase in such cases, from 135 in 2022 to 277 in 2023. In addition to physical violence and vandalism, the report noted an increase in discrimination against Christians in professional and social spheres, leading to greater self-censorship among believers and restrictions on religious freedoms.
