Sumy Eparchy of UOC reports on 2024 charitable activities
The diocese provided ongoing support for vulnerable social groups and also assisted soldiers and children battling cancer.
The Sumy Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) has shared the results of its charitable work for 2024. According to the diocesan press service, assistance was provided to Ukrainian soldiers, sick children, those in need, displaced persons, and victims of the war.
As noted by the diocese, various charitable campaigns and initiatives made it possible to establish ongoing support for socially vulnerable groups.
At the Church of the Prophet Elijah in Sumy, hot meals were distributed daily to the homeless, internally displaced persons, and low-income individuals. Over the course of the year, more than 40,000 meals were served. The church also provided targeted aid in the form of medicines, food, and clothing.
Over 20 tons of food were distributed throughout the year, along with military gear, thermal imaging devices, communications equipment, and medical supplies worth more than 500,000 UAH for Ukrainian troops.
During Christmas, Easter, and other holidays, diocesan priests visited wounded soldiers in hospitals and delivered aid to frontline areas.
Metropolitan Yevlohiy of Sumy and Okhtyrka donated a Volkswagen Transporter T5 evacuation vehicle to the Ukrainian military, purchased with funds raised through a diocesan charity campaign.
As part of the campaign “Bright Deeds for a Bright Day,” the eparchy raised over 1,000,000 UAH, which was used to purchase a platelet incubator shaker and essential medications to help treat children with cancer at the Hematology Department of the Sumy Regional Children's Clinical Hospital.
“Such service is a living example of unity, compassion, and support for one’s neighbor during difficult times,” the statement reads.
As previously reported by the UOJ, Metropolitan Yevlohiy offered condolences to those affected by the shelling in Sumy.
