Metropolitan Anthony: What is Impossible with Man is Possible with God

Many people in the world have met this year with anxiety and pessimism. This is not surprising: the events knock the ground from under the feet of those who got used to the material well-being and hoped for prosperity for many years to come.

The escalation of confrontations in the Middle East, a significant drop in oil prices, instability of the largest stock markets, scaling up a new arms race - a little list of what causes concern and dread for the future of millions of people.

Some believe that all this will bring the full unfolding of World War III. Others are convinced that the future is preparing a collapse of the current global financial system. Others plunged into the analysis of the possibility for their countries to survive in the impending tsunami of general instability and chaos.

Many Ukrainians feel greatly concerned about that too. After all, for all of us it is very important that the available resources of our homeland are more than enough to deal effectively with internal and external threats. Skeptics may say that all this is an elusive dream, because we have lost a lot and are now just playing in the hands of "the powers that be".

But we should never forget: what is impossible with man is possible with God. The history of the outcome of the Israeli people from Egypt must serve an instructive example for all of us. The Jews were not backed with powerful armies, deterrent weapons and a myriad of financial resources. Compared to other nations, more numerous, prosperous and strong, they seemed a tribal union of madmen who set off on a self-destructive march across the desert and foreign lands. However, in the hearts of the Jews lived faith and trust in God. As a consequence – miraculously the indestructible was destroyed and the undefeatable was defeated. We know this because over the centuries passed a legend has been handed down on how the waters closed over the army of Pharaoh, the impregnable walls of Jericho fell and the countless hordes of Amalec were defeated by the power of prayer.

In such a fervent prayer we must pass our days. It is the prayer that, along with repentance and trust in God, will be the coveted compass that will successfully guide us and our homeland through reefs of the future trials.
